I'm Making Lace!
There was one other thing I got for my birthday that I hadn't taken a picture of for my last post.
Amy gave me this beautiful hank of Seasilk! The instant I saw it, I knew I would want to knit it right away. Having a single hank, I was pretty sure I'd be making a scarf.
I went through Victorian Lace Today and decided to try the Scarf with the Striped Border. I've done other lace projects (Branching Out, some lacy socks), but never anything I would consider a true lace project, with fancy borders and whatnot. I wound the yarn yesterday and did my first crochet cast on. I haven't been able to stop working on it since.
Please excuse the darkness. It rained all day today, but I didn't want to wait to take a photo! I keep pausing my knitting to admire all of the sweet eyelets and pet the incredibly soft yarn. Seriously, this yarn is exquisite. I'm also amazed by how quickly this project seems to be progressing. I'm already more than 25% finished with the center panel. I can't wait to block it!
PS: I finished Rusted Root Friday night, but don't want to take FO shots until we get some sunshine around here!

ooooooooooh, purdy! The top shot with the yarn on top of the wood is great photog, btw. Lovely to look at.
Thanks so much! I like that photo, too. I can't wait to get a nice, bright photo of the scarf in progress. It looks like the sea.
That yarn is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!
loving the color of this yarn it looks like it knits up beautifully
Toya: I can't describe how nicely this knits up. It's like a massage for my hands whenever I work with it. And also the stitching itself is beautiful, even in its unblocked state.
Adrienne: Don't I know it! It reminds me of the ocean every time I look at it!
Happy belated birthday. It sounds like you had a great day with the Puffin Cruise and yarn shopping (Too bad about Willows End Closing, I really liked them). The blue Sea Silk is gorgeous. I can`t wait to see your scarf. I just bought my first Sea Silk last week and I am waiting for inspiration.
Marlena--Saw your comment on Grumperina's blog. Yes, the Russian join works just great for lace. I think that may be where it came from in the first place. I used it recently on a wool/silk laceweight yarn, because my lace pattern was too open to allow for overlapped ends (knitting with both yarns for a few stitches) or sewn-in tails. My Russian join is invisible, yet it is very strong.
Your current lace is lovely. Good luck with your future projects! I adore knitting lace.

Thanks a lot for the tip, Melissa. Now I'm kind of wishing I did have to change balls in this project, just so I could try something new!
God, that is *GORGEOUS*. Now I can't wait to see it finished!!!
So pretty! How big is the scarf going to be?
Pioggia: It's supposed to be just over five feet long when it's done and blocked. The fabric seems very stretchy, though, so maybe it'll be even longer!
